In March, Lexington High School will open its course selection session for school year 2022-2023. In order to help students and parents better prepare for the course selection process, several recent LHS graduates and current students held an online seminar on Feb. 12, 2022 to address questions raised by the audience. This event was organized by Chinese Americans of Lexington (CaLex) and its affiliated LexYouth, sponsored by American Education and Thinking Academy, Diyi Education, and Weebond Academy Inc.
Seven panelists attended this seminar, each focusing on specific subjects. After outlining the fundamental requirements of course selections at LHS, they delved into details regarding different courses, as well as addressing questions raised by interested parents and students that had been collected by the organizers beforehand. Toward the end of the seminar, the panelists held a live Q & A session to answer questions from the audience. More than 200 students and parents attended the seminar.
Joanna Liu, a sophomore at LHS, co-hosted this seminar with Salvador Jaramillo, a graduate of LHS class 2020. Jaramillos is currently a Harvard pre-medical student and is running for a seat on the School Committee in the Lexington town election coming up on March 7, 2022. His LHS classmate Kevin Xiong, a student athlete studying mathematics and economics at Carleton College, joined him to offer their perspectives and share their experiences on how to thrive at LHS beyond course selections.
In concluding this seminar that ran over 90 minutes, Richard Zhang, the program director of LexYouth, thanked the panelists and attendees. Many attendees also expressed their appreciation to the organizers afterwards.
