On Saturday, May 27, CALex and LexYouth joined over a hundred local businesses and organizations to participate in Lexington’s annual Discovery Day street fair. The booth was located next to the performance stage and welcomed many visitors. The weather was beautiful and it was sunny and warm.
Throughout the day, student volunteers were hard at work running the booth. They taught visitors about CALex, a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and LexYouth, a youth group sponsored by CALex that aims to cultivate leadership in youth.
Volunteers also organized many games for visitors. These included spinning a wheel and answering a question for a prize and picking up items with a pair of chopsticks. Visitors could also have their name written in Chinese characters on a bookmark. Several people participated in games of chess.
In the back of the booth, volunteers were hard at work making flowers and animals out of balloons, which they gave to visitors. Other prizes included pins, candy, bookmarks, and large coloring sheets with markers.
With the hard work of everyone involved, the event was successful and ran smoothly. Both visitors and volunteers alike enjoyed the booth and their interactions with each other.
