Meet the Author- Robin Pan
Robin Pan is a high school senior at Lexington High School. A passionate scientist and artist, she serves as captain of the Lexington High School Science Olympiad Team and president of National Art Honor Society. Through Science Olympiad she was introduced to ornithology, the study of birds, which has become one of her favorite pastimes. Beyond the connection to her name, she especially loves learning about bird adaptations and biodiversity (feel free to ask her for a bird fun fact!). Robin has also been an active member of the Lexington community, as the founder and head coach of Jonas Clarke Middle School’s Science Olympiad program and previously also a coach for Clarke’s Science Bowl program.
In her debut picture book, “Birdy, How Do You Fly?”, she has united her interests in ornithology, art, and teaching. The book follows an American Robin bird and dives into the science behind how birds fly in a fun and digestible way for readers of all ages. She both wrote and hand painted the watercolor illustrations, which range from bird wings to bird bones and muscles. Robin hopes her book will inspire young kids’ curiosities, whether in ornithology, art, science, or just observing the world around them!
